Arguably Nigeria’s most unfairly vilified President in his time, Goodluck Jonathan, a former University lecturer and easy-sailing politician is notable for being a perfect gentleman and a true patriot. After the momentous phone call to his successor while conceding a controversial defeat at the presidential polls in 2015, his stock as a conciliatory leader, who put the peaceful progression of democracy in this country before personal ambition, sky-rocketed, burnishing his political profile and legacy in the process.
Being Nigeria’s president and commander-in-chief from May 6, 2010 when his immediate boss, Late President Umar Yar’adua passed on, till 2015 when he conceded power to President Muhammadu Buhari, his antecedents defy all descriptions of a politician and especially an African bred one.
Goodluck is a native of Bayelsa State, Nigeria, precisely from Otuoke in Ogbia Local Government Area. He was born on November 20th, 1957, to Mr. and Mrs. Ebele Jonathan, a couple who were known for their integrity in spite of their humble status.
Goodluck Jonathan as a boy was very intelligent, tactful and with rare attributes that made his paternal grandmother nickname him “Azikiwe” after the great Nnamdi ‘Zik of Africa’ Azikiwe because both shared a predisposition to flashing charming smiles. And that act of preternatural precognition marked him as another great Nigerian destined for very big things.
